Members at Lawtons Drugs – Scotia Square Halifax achieve first collective agreement

May 5, 2015 – Congratulations to UFCW Canada Local 864 members at the Lawtons Drugs location at the Scotia Square in Halifax, and the first-ever Lawtons drugstore to be unionized.

On April 19, 2015, the members ratified their first collective agreement. Lawtons is a division of Sobeys and operates a chain of over 80 drugstores and healthcare supply stores across Atlantic Canada. The drugstore location at Scotia Square is the first one to be unionized.

Achievements in the first collective agreement include wage scale increases of a minimum of 30¢ per hour and upwards during the first-year contract. The new contract also provides a new additional paid holiday, Heritage Day, for all bargaining unit members.

We are back at the bargaining table in 10 months and looking forward to fixing issues in the store. It was and is always will be about respect, fairness and dignity in the workplace.

UFCW Canada Local 864 and the Eastern Provinces Council would like to thank the negotiating committee members Odette Williams and Derek Hubley, as well as the whole membership for staying strong and committed to their beliefs during the process.
