Vote for MMP – The Best Choice for P.E.I.
Is it time to change the way we vote in P.E.I.? The UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council believes that it is, and islanders are now being asked for our input on this issue through a plebiscite that runs from October 29 to November 7. A plebiscite is a non-binding vote on a public question involving change. In this case, the question is whether or not we want to reform P.E.I.’s voting system.
The plebiscite is asking us which electoral system we would like to use to elect members to the provincial legislative assembly. There are five options on the ballot, which you will be asked to rank. They are:
-
Mixed Member Proportional (MMP)
-
Dual Member Proportional (DMP)
-
Preferential Voting (PV)
-
First Past The Post (FPTP)
-
First Past The Post Plus Leader (FPTP +)
After a careful and thorough analysis, the UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council believes that a Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system is the best and most democratic choice for the people of P.E.I. We are therefore asking you to vote for MMP as your first choice in the plebiscite.
How do you do that? There are two steps, detailed below.
