Halifax – July 25, 2019 – Activists from the UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council (EPC) joined tens of thousands of participants from across the region for the 32nd Annual Halifax Pride Parade, held on July 20. The parade served as the centerpiece of the 11-day Halifax Pride Festival, which celebrates the LGBTQI2S community in Halifax and throughout Nova Scotia.
Once again, the parade set out a from the DND Dockyard, heading through downtown Halifax and ending at the Garrison Grounds, where a community festival awaited parade-goers. It is estimated that over 150,000 people joined in this year’s colourful event, celebrating equity and inclusion with fellow Haligonians and participants from abroad.
At the parade, dozens of UFCW EPC activists marched alongside their brightly decorated float while handing out UFCW tote bags to spectators.
“Ensuring our union is welcoming and inclusive to all members is extremely important to us,” says Mark Dobson, president of the UFCW Eastern Provinces Council. “I’d like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate and show solidarity with our LGBTQI2S sisters, brothers, and friends. Your support helped make this year’s Halifax Pride a resounding success.”
