Victory for voting reform in P.E.I.
Charlottetown, P.E.I. – November 10, 2016 – In a major victory for electoral reform, voters in Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) have chosen Mixed Member Proportional Representation (MMP) as their preferred voting system.
Vote for MMP – The Best Choice for P.E.I.
Is it time to change the way we vote in P.E.I.? The UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council believes that it is, and islanders are now being asked for our input on this issue through a plebiscite that runs from October 29 to November 7. A plebiscite is a non-binding vote on a public question involving change. In this case, the question is whether or not we want to reform P.E.I.’s voting system.
UFCW activists Light the Night in Halifax
Halifax – October 27, 2016 – UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces activists led the way at this year's Light the Night walk in Halifax, with the UFCW’s “Team Luminary” emerging as one of the top fundraising teams at the event. Dozens of UFCW Canada Local 864 members, family members, and staff participated in the walk, raising over $30,000 for the life-saving efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
