Soft Drink Council meets

November 22, 2012 - At the recent meeting of the Canadian Soft Drink Workers Council (CSWC) held in Toronto, UFCW Canada representatives from Local Unions 175, 278W, 361W, 387W, 401, 486, 501, 832, 864, 1000A, 1288P and 1400 combined to make the largest caucus of the seven organizations in attendance including UFCW Canada, Teamsters, NAPE (from Newfoundland), CAW, RWDSU (Saskatchewan), and an independent employees' association from Calgary.

New fisheries unit at Potlotek First Nations in Nova Scotia

June 14, 2012 - Deckhands for the fishery operations of Potlotek First Nations in Nova Scotia have become the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 864 following a successful organizing campaign by the UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council (EPC). The bargaining unit of over 40 First Nations in-shore fisherman was certified on June 5 by the Canadian Industrial Relations Board.

Aspiring nursing student receives BDM scholarship to help accomplish her dream

March June 15,2012 - Every year UFCW Canada awards 18 dedicated and commendable students with the Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship of $1,000 each. One of this year’s recipients is Cindy Coombs, a dedicated university student working towards a Bachelor of Nursing Degree at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Cindy is currently a practicing LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) who realized she wanted to further her education in nursing shortly after she started working in the field.

Members stage seniority protest at Chancellor Park
