Eskasoni Health Centre workers ratify first contract

In a monumental move, UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local 864 members working at the Eskasoni Health Centre voted 100 per cent in favour of ratifying their first collective bargaining agreement.

The four-year deal will allow these members to enjoy a safe, harassment free workplace with the safety of union representation and the grievance procedure backing them within workplace issues.

Monetary gains for members include a 12.5 per cent wage increase over the course of the deal spanning from custodial workers to registered nurses, an on-call rate of $60 per day, 15 statutory holidays, two personal days and 1.5 accrued sick days per month.

Overtime language will also have overtime hours banked as time or paid out twice a year.

These gains allow members to enjoy a healthier work-life balance, and to be properly compensated for their time.

Contract language will also have all required employee licenses and fees covered by the company.

Additional gains include implementing pension plans, expanded bereavement, and 50 per cent of all medical benefits covered.

Please join us in congratulating our members on their first contract!
