UFCW Eastern Provinces Council would like to welcome 19 new members to Local 864 in Nova Scotia following a successful organizing campaign at GFL Environmental in Stellarton.
An application was made to the Nova Scotia Labour Board after 13 members signed union cards.
A vote was held on Nov. 12, 2024, and was won following 13 ‘yes’ votes and 6 ‘no’ votes.
The new members, employed as drivers and driver helpers, are demanding increased wages, a pension plan, medical benefits and paid sick days, among other asks.
