Karen Beaton won over $3,000 in arbitration

A recent arbitration victory has awarded Local 1288P member Karen Beaton with more than $3,000 in back-pay and a wage increase.

As one of Canada’s largest private sector Union, we are always proud to fight for our members through every workplace dispute.

UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local 1288P member Karen Beaton, a worker at the House of Nazareth homeless shelter in Moncton, was recently dealing with an issue of not being paid her proper wages, leading to a grievance filed and eventually, arbitration.

Arbitration was held in Moncton on March 27, with a subsequent decision made June 1.

With the help of UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local Representative Yves Leger, Karen was awarded roughly $3,300 in retroactive pay, as well as a wage increase of $1.37.

"I am beyond grateful to UFCW for taking this as far as they have, making House of Nazareth pay me what I deserved," said Beaton. "Not only that, but UFCW has supported me through this entire process, making me feel like a very valued member, which I am proud to be."
