A grievance settlement has awarded a Local 864 member who was wrongfully dismissed from his job full reinstatement with maintained seniority, along with back pay surpassing $7,000.
The grievance, which challenged Stephen Paul’s dismissal from Membertou Fisheries, led to discussions between UFCW and the employer. Rather than proceed to arbitration, both parties reached a mutual settlement agreement.
As a result, Stephen was reinstated to his position at the fishery with his seniority intact and was awarded a $7,500 cash settlement.
“I would like to say, have trust in the process and be patient,” said Stephen, reflecting on the outcome.
