2012 BDM Scholarship Winner: Valerie Gibbs, Local 1288P
February 3, 2013 – Valerie Gibbs is one of the 18 BDM Scholarships recipients for 2012. Valerie is the daughter of UFCW Canada Local 1288P Member Michel Gibbs, who works at Co-op Atlantic in Moncton, N.B.
Local 1288P President Dan Smith recently presented Valerie with the $1,000 BDM scholarship prize on behalf of the UFCW Canada National Council.
“Thank you for the $1,000 UFCW Canada Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship award. The money will go towards my tuition fee for my next semester,” says Valerie. “I’m presently a student at the New-Brunswick Community College in Dieppe, New Brunswick. The course I’m taking is Office Administration. This Scholarship means a lot to my family and me. This scholarship will help me reach my goal to be a bilingual administrative assistant.”
Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 annual BDM scholarships of $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post secondary study.
