Spring brings webCampus online certificate courses
National President Meinema with John Bennett, President of Local 864 – and a proud webCampus certificate course graduate! |
April 8, 2014 – UFCW Canada's webCampus is pleased to offer free online certificate courses for UFCW Canada members, activists, and family members: Media & Communications Specialist, Human Rights Advocate and Retail Food Specialist. These certificate programs allow participants to develop their professional skills, add to their resume, and open doors to unique career possibilities.
The Media & Communications Specialist certificate introduces students to multimedia, web design and communication skills. Utilizing these skills, participants may choose to pursue roles in marketing and communications within the union, non-profit sectors, or business sectors. Members might also use these courses as a springboard to further education as a freelance communications professional.
The Human Rights Advocate certificate prepares students to better understand and apply human rights law as it relates to minority and equity-seeking groups. Participants will be introduced to the challenges facing diverse communities such as LGBTQ and migrant workers. webCampus students will also learn ways to advocate within government and society for an end to discrimination, and best practices for working in solidarity with equity-seeking groups.
The Retail Food Specialist certificate provides exposure to and involvement with the practical aspects of the retail food sector. In addition, students are asked to focus on specific areas within retail that provide a more comprehensive understanding of department-specific topics. This is a hands-on course that enhances and expands knowledge, particularly for members of UFCW Canada – the nation’s retail union.
