Halifax, NS – 30 October, 2015 – UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces activists were front and centre, as their “Team Luminary” came first as the top fundraising team at the Light the Night event recently held in Halifax. More than forty Local 864 members, family members, and national staff raised in total over $30,000 for the lifesaving and life changing efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

“Thanks to all the members and their family members for making this year’s efforts so successful,” said Mark Dobson, president of the UFCW Canada Eastern Provinces Council and UFCW Canada regional director for the Eastern Provinces. “It is certainly something to be proud of and it is also inspiring because we know that every dollar raised makes such a difference for kids, adults and their families fighting the good fight against blood cancers.”

More than 3,500 participants altogether set out at dusk from the Garrison Grounds for the Halifax Light the Night Walk on October 24, which in total raised more than $500,000. The monies raised support the LLSC’s programs to raise awareness, provide patient and family services, and fund research into finding a cure for leukemia and other blood cancers.

Since adopting the LLSC as their charity of choice in 1985, UFCW Canada members and their union have raised over $33.8 million for the LLSC.
